Corporate homepage redesign

Objective

A redesigned homepage for KVH's main corporate website. KVH is a global company which caters to multiple market sectors within B2B and B2C. The new design would allow space to showcase their three main market sectors above the fold without the use of a slider. Analytics consistently showed that visitors were not clicking through slides and content was being missed.

Approach

The grid-based solution I designed allowed for all three market sectors to be presented within a hierarchy that would highlight one main feature. To consolidate space and remove clutter it was decided to utilize text-based card components to showcase the news and press just below the fold. I created graphics which used overlaying html text to entice visitors to explore the connectivity and content sections. This would allow flexibility for the backgrounds to be easily swapped out, if needed. I created a prototype for four different breakpoints to show how the design would scale and managed the development process with an outside vendor to build the components within the Sitecore content management system within the company’s budget.

Results

A polished new homepage which allows the user to take in more information, engage with the content and more easily navigate to featured products and services.

 

When looking at the analytics after a 4 month period:

  • Average time on the homepage increased by 6%

  • Page load time for the homepage decreased by 17%

 

Year-over-year user experience performance score increased by 90%
